BLOG #10 - Anti War

In today’s world when the US government is conducting military operations all over the world. The debate is surrounding different actions with only one in testimony. Different perceptions of the anti-war with hearing different voices. All over the mainstream can provide crucial counter balance to native Americans. Exploring all the different viewpoints that someone could have can have a shield over the military inventions and the diverse opinions of what it could shape into the public eye.

It’s very hard to find anti-war arguments on the Internet because I think people want to read what’s only benefiting our country and positive articles. I think with the saying of how the government always feeds us information we wanna hear. I think it’s getting really relevant in our times of today because of the rise of the media and the increase of people paying attention to our government in our world nowadays. The influence of social media and how it could spread fake news is even harder to find on base information. With all the different websites that have inaccurate misinformation can seek the different questions of different perspectives of what’s really happening.

In this  article https://www.thenation.com/article/world/modern-anti-war-movement/ it highlights certain events of the war in “destructive technologies” in society, and how the changing the way people live and interact with the world. The author really emphasizes how in World War II, the Vietnam war, and 9/11 have shaped the state of the globe in so many different ways, and how pointing out the wars have become a continuous present thing that happens in our our lives now, and how there should be more security in more public places that have access from other people that can enter from different countries. It shows how the anti-war voices seem to be mainstream media, and how it presents a war and normalizes the security measurements that could be created as questioning the difficulty or even on patriotism. Anti-war voices may be pushed or harder to see because the challenging the new normal period of finding the conflict and confronting the shift is a big part of nowadays and societal values that could be often uncomfortable or even dangerous for people to argue about or have open arguments.

Anti-war voices are different perspectives that are very unreasonable in mainstream media. By being represented, you could seek out unknown sources that could have a wide range of viewpoints that may be better for military operations and how it could impact them. Mainstream media often is influenced by power of political and economic interest. What’s looking at websites like the American conversation other features of stronger opinions or provided in different perspectives that have ongoing conflict. With the main street, narrative and challenge of the different interests, the voices may be disrupted by hidden absurdity. I think the situation_is more important and shows how it seeks out different diverse and independent sources of information critically, examining all the different opinions and narratives that are on our digital media landscape.

Blog #11 - Final Post

Our daily lives are now fully shaped by technology, which impacts how we communicate, learn, and spend our time. Social media and smart devices are two examples of how the rapid growth of technology has changed how we interact and get information. It's essential to understand how technology influences our relationships and personal development as we navigate this constantly changing digital landscape.

From reading the article I'm 14, and I Quit Social MediaIt discusses the concerns and everything that comes with having children on social media. But also how the mother was sharing all different  images, videos, and other personal information. It really highlights the relationship in privacy of the digital age between the parents and the child. It also highlights wanting to share meaningful moments with friends and family and loved ones but also being mindful of what you’re posting and how it affects a child's privacy. I think this resonates in certain ways, with me because when I was younger, I always wanted to post stuff so my friends could see, but I always was told to be mindful of what you post because you never know where it could go. Having social media is a privilege so knowing that I always was very careful.

Growing up with three older brothers I felt that I was introduced to technology from an early age. I was influenced by social media, having access to new devices, and new softwares. I felt like I always had some type of technology throughout my life from an iPad to an iPhone. From them screaming at their Xboxes to having computers for school. But being the youngest, and also being a girl, from an early age, my brothers would always give me the social media talk on "do not post anything mom wouldn’t want to see”. But with my oldest brother being 10 years apart

from me, I felt like I had a really wide perspective on how technology worked and how it evolved over time. Also, how I shaped some of my own habits with technology. I always knew to be very careful on social media from them, but also from my parents as well. From being exposed to technology at such a young age, I feel like it developed me to have some unhealthy habits with always being unsure of one to put it away. I definitely had a lot of both positive and negative habits that influenced my relationship with technology growing up, how it helped me grow, learn and adapt.

Reflecting on my own digital footprint, when I search up my name online, my high school hockey other sports articles come up, and just my instagram link. I am mindful about what I post on social media, this gives a sense that I am trying to have an online presence and that there would be nothing concerning if a potential employer googled me in my future.

In conclusion, technology has influenced me both positively and negatively in my life when it comes to social media and technology. I believe just maintaining a healthy relationship with technology will benefit you in the future.

BLOG #9 - EOTO REAX Project 2

I chose to do my reflection on Maddie’s presentation about illusion truth theory. I honestly thought it was so interesting how it’s a reoccurring statement that makes more people more likely to believe it even if it’s not true at all. How it started as an experiment to repeat a statement and how to make more people believe it. People were shown claims somewhere, some were true and some were false. The researchers found that more people were likely to trust the claim, even though it wasn’t fully accurate. It's just people were getting influenced by the perception of the truth.

She goes into how the illusion truth effect was really affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic was claimed as a “deliberate biological weapon” that was spread through very quickly and was believed as a claim which was lacking in credibility. There was information getting shared online rapidly during Covid, but there were often not accurate sources giving accurate sources. With all the different posts through social media people still didn’t know what was false information yet a lot of people believed it all to be true. It shows kind of the same experiment  that the researchers did, but this one was a real event, but there were some fake accusations during the time.

I like how Maddie included the illusory truth effect since it puts accurate educational material in the public spotlight and highlights the possible harm of sharing incorrect information. Since our younger generation is all online and social media it’s easier for them to see false information and believe it’s true. This is especially true for children, as I mentioned prior. In our new generations, with everything on social media, they may believe anything they see, but if they are aware of this, I think it will be very beneficial for our future.

Blog Post #7 - EOTO REAX Project 1

I choose to write about Camden's presentation, the history of emojis. I personally love using emojis in my text. I feel like it helps me emphasize what I mean in a text. People take texts and interpret them in so many different ways so I feel like when adding emoji it’s a visual face that someone could see how persuasive it is. Not always that is the case, though, but I definitely think about how I use them. I think it helps people, but sometimes there is confusion. As if someone could interpret the message with something that sarcastic if they added an emoji that might’ve not been sarcastic and it was more on a serious matter.

From this point in Camden's presentation, I feel like I gained a lot of knowledge about emojis that I was previously unaware of. Who created them at the time of their creation. One part of her presentation that truly stuck out was one that covered the early days of emojis, their development over time, their increased detail, and how they create emotion without sacrificing intelligence. With the first set of mobile phones with emojis was introduced in 1997. They were released with the IOS 5 software from Apple in 2011, so a few decades after the emojis were introduce. Apple was able to introduce the whole collection of emojis in the release of the new software.

Emojis could be used in text messages or simply as a new invention to help with a variety of tasks. According to an American computer scientist, who invented them in 1979, they were intended to be used to convey a message by depicting a happy or amusing face. It was primarily to just have an emotional context to a message for online purposes.

From listening, reflecting on the history of emojis I honestly didn’t really know much about them obviously I knew what they were but it’s just so cool to see on how creative we got over the years and how our world is just filled with emojis everywhere .

Blog #8 - EOTO Online Influencers

Having a large following is not the only benefit of being an online influencer. Being an online influencer can hold lots of responsibilities as they influence different views and opinions to their audience. Engaging and influencing a large following, making money through partnerships or sponsorships can turn into a full-time job. There’s so many different benefits of being an online influencer. Influencers have the opportunity to develop to build a personal brand and connect them with their large following. There are some downsides with being an online influencer that could involve lots of stress and it could be difficult to handle the businesses interest while remaining honest opinions and receiving negative feedback by your following.  Receiving negative feedback from your own  following can be very hard when you're trying to please the business requirements for your post and please your followers. It can be very hard for an influencer and their mental health to balance both feedback and not let the hate get to you.

Online influencers have the opportunity to have a big impact on society. They have the voice where they could raise awareness about certain issues, promote positive behaviors, and bring focus to important concerns. There also can be some concerns with online influencers not always checking the accuracy of the content they post. They could be spending false information which could be a serious problem. Can give them a lot of backlash and have their followers start to have a different look on them.

Online influencers have such a huge impact on different segments in so many ways. The wealthier the viewer, they might be drawn to luxury influencers while those who offer affordable recommendations might spend more time following them. The younger the viewer there is more typically interested in social media trends, when an older viewer may follow influencers that focus on particular things like healthcare or finance. Men and women can be affected by gender specific influencers in different ways. For example, women are more likely to be attracted to beauty and fashion influencers rather than males are more influenced to be attracted to Fitness or technology influencers. Viewers may also look for influencers who they support and raise awareness of their group while advocating for diversity. Overall, the impact of influencers varies widely based on the unique  features and interest of their audience.

Influencers may have a significant impact on your life. Online influencers have a huge impact on my life because I’m very easily influenced to buy something. I think the big impact will be on our generation because with the use of social media it’s likely to be influenced by online personalities by shaping trends, social movements, and even political opinions.

Overall, the impact of influencers varies widely based on the unique  features and interest of their audience. Having a large following and being an online influencer can be very good and can have some downsides. Being an online influencer can hold lots of responsibilities as they influence different views and opinions to their following.

Blog# 4 - Privacy

Adults always tell you when you're younger to be careful with certain things you post on social media. "Post what you want your mom to see.” It acts as a reminder to help you think about the consequences of sharing something you wouldn't want other people to see, like your mom.  It's a saying from when I was younger that has truly stayed with me because my parents would never want me to share anything too personal or unacceptable that may damage my reputation or that of my family. Growing up, I was also constantly reminded by my three older brothers to avoid posting anything I didn't want other people to see.

The TedTalks really emphasizes how scary it can be for all of us. The government and other websites that have so much of our information. Juan Enriquez and Catherine Crump really dive deep into the real importance of protecting our information.

Juan Enriquez explains in the TedTalk “Your Online Life, Permanent as a tattoo” that explains how your Internet perception can leave a long impression on yourself. Even if you delete something no matter if you delete it or remove it it remains online forever. As the TED talk gets further more into detail he really talks about electronic tattoos because when you get a tattoo, it’s there forever.

In her TedTalk, "How revenge porn turns lives upside down," Catherine Crump explains how police are tracking the locations of individuals while watching their actions using modern video surveillance, including technologies on our cell phones that function as trackers and can scan license plates. Innocent people can be used for things like profiling and blackmail, as demonstrated in the TedTalk. Catherine uses a lot of the data given in the TED talk to support her argument that restrictions are required to stop police from keeping information about innocent people. To protect our privacy while permitting legal utilization of technology.

Privacy issues affect my friends and my family because there could be personal information, theft, identity, and loss of control with someone’s life that could happen in my family. Growing up being told to be careful what you post I think really helped me growing up. I think the government should take more appropriate steps to protect individuals' privacy. This includes maybe direct regulations on certain data usage or making certain companies have a stricter policy.

Blog #5 - Age of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a type of computer science that focuses on creating better systems to perform tasks that are typically for human intelligence.

The documentary "In the Age of AI" by FRONTLINE takes a far more comprehensive look at AI, including its features and development.  Along with how it will eventually dominate society. The documentary explores the rapid growth of advancement of artificial intelligence, and how it has a significant impact. It clearly shows how AI is impacting the number of companies and industries in the industry at large.  The documentary raises plenty of privacy and job loss issues related to AI. China's significant developments in AI and how the government's efforts genuinely ruled the world were two significant topics that particularly caught my attention. It really highlights the ethical issues and concerns raised by all the uses and systems of AI and how people use it in their daily life and throughout the world.

There are some positive aspects and more complex things about artificial intelligence and machine learning. Some positive aspects I think could help people with using AI could give them a lot of tasks and ideas and help them in a productive way in various industries is just in a little thing or helping them figure out something.  Additionally, it might promote fast data analysis, offering insight from multiple viewpoints to improve decision-making and problem-solving.

But with AI, a lot of people have concerns with privacy, but I think there’s pros and cons that go into that.  One advantage of AI, in my opinion, is that it can significantly improve data and create better system codes that protect personal information more effectively than current technology. An AI-powered system might contain a lot of data. Withholding all of your personal information that might be revealed, misplaced, or accidentally overlooked may cause privacy issues.

From the documentary the section,  https://youtu.be/5dZ_lvDgevk?t=2728&si=o3UrCWFVmLxsj4Ua  Kai-Fu Lee, a Sinovation Ventures CEO, his statement is saying that AI is not going to take over blue-collar jobs. It’s actually gonna be taking over white collar jobs. We respond back with “while both will happen” “white collar jobs are easier to take because they are pure quantitative analytic processes” he states. Then further go into detail on what types of jobs are more affected like reporters, telemarketers, and customer service jobs saying “all will be replaced by software.” Learning that a system could deprive people of their income truly concerns me. There should be a balance between AI helping and taking over, in my opinion, because when he discuss how AI wouldn't replace blue-collar jobs, it would replace white-collar jobs because, as he says, blue-collar jobs are essentially hands-on or in different fields, and white-collar jobs could be easily replaced by software.

Lastly, the documentary recognizes the advantages and disadvantages of AI while highlighting and balancing many viewpoints on the matter.  Given that the documentary is five years old, I would really like to see a new one that explores the state of artificial intelligence in five years from now.
