Blog #2- The Supreme Court

Being not really familiar with the Supreme Court and truly what it really is. I feel like I learned about it very briefly in school or learned about it a lot and it just never stuck because of the way the teachers taught it was not interesting and didn’t really make it seem as important for younger kids to learn at a younger age so they know more about it as they get older.

The Supreme Court offers the most consecutive decisions that define the structure and functioning of the United States and our government. The judicial branch and how it serves as the primary function of our laws were definitely important components. A key takeaway regarding the Supreme Court is that, indeed, it is the highest court in our constitution, granting rights and making decisions that affect American society. The Supreme Court has enormous judicial authority, which manifests itself in a variety of ways throughout the various levels of government to set various boundaries. The Supreme Court has rendered decisions in historic situations, and I think that both then and now, life is so different.

I was unaware that there have been more than 100 justices appointed to the Supreme Court, and that the average length of service was 16 years. I found it fascinating that you could serve for so long, and I feel it's really excellent and fantastic to think you can serve for that long.

I became much more aware of the Supreme Court's tasks and its status as our nation's highest court after observing this film.  I knew very little about the Supreme Court before viewing this film, including how important it is to uphold the law in this way and how doing so protects our freedoms as citizens and the freedom of all Americans.
